Peonies: Spring Wedding Flowers We Love!

Peony season is finally here.  Good morning everyone!  It has been such a long time since we blogged, but we are excited to be back, and we are chatting today about a flower we just adore for weddings, peonies. They come in such an amazing array of colors and textures, as a garden flower and as a delicate floral decor for your wedding day, there is not other flower that can compare to the majestic peony.

From delicate whites, to rich corals and bright cranberry reds, peonies are a perennial flower that ranges from single blooms to lush large double heads with a wonderful scent and aroma.  We just had about over 100 this past weekend, and it was heaven in our studio.

The flowers only bloom in spring, when you can find at a stem price below $10.  Tree peonies are slightly higher price than regular (herbaceous) peonies.  Some of the popular peony flowers for weddings include Sarah Bernhardt in a light pink, Alexander Fleming in a hot pink hue, coral charm and coral sunset which are beautiful for a spring wedding paired with mint green and peach, red charm peonies with a rich red cranberry color, and white peonies.

If you are a DIY bride, peonies are perfect to design a bouquet with lots of impact. You don’t have to have more than a bloom or two to make a bouquet that pops with color and texture.  It’s huge flower heads with lots of petals are wonderful for wedding bouquets and centerpieces with a lavish look.

If you are buying peonies for your wedding from a local or online wholesale supplier, they will most likely arrive like a little golf ball. Also keep an eye out at places like Whole Foods and local supermarkets. I was excited to see some bunches at the Giant by my house, perfect for use in home centerpieces for a spring soiree with friends. After you get your flowers,  cut the stem at a sharp 45 degree angle and place in proper hydration, in no time it will open up into a large bloom.  Most of the blooms average 2 to 4 inches in diameter, which is fabulous for a lush look.  Peonies change in color during it’s vase life, and they last about five days.
